Crossing the street, trying not to think about Samson, he jumped as the ‘whoop whoop’ noise of a siren blared behind him. Turning around, heart in his throat, he stared as a Hancock County Sheriff car slowly pulled up alongside him, a large, overweight man at the wheel. The sirens mercifully stopped, and Sheriff Ruskin pushed himself out of the car.
