Several scenarios played out in her mind. What if she had suffered a stroke and now lay in a hospital bed somewhere, alive but unable to communicate with the outside world? Or perhaps she was dead, and this was limbo. She couldn’t imagine that it was hell, even if she believed in the concept, because as confused and disorientated as she was, paradoxically she also felt safe and cared for.
