Oh God, Jenny thought, her heart ballooning against her ribcage. Oh God, oh God, oh God! Risking a look back, she nearly ran her bicycle into a ditch but couldn’t see a thing. She had heard the voice, though, mocking and cruel, and knew that it had to be the monster. Pushing past her cramping calves, peddling as hard as she could, she raced toward the hospital.
